michi-maker guides

Build a page around one card

Put a card in a pocket, press Fill, and michi-maker finishes the page around it. There are eight ways it can do that, and each one has a different idea of what the page is about. Here is the walkthrough, and here is what all eight produced from the same card.

Eevee, SV Scarlet & Violet Promo 173

The card we started with

Eevee · SV: Scarlet & Violet Promo Cards · 173 · illustrated by Makura Tami

Every fill starts from one card you have already placed. We used this Eevee and changed nothing else. Nothing on this page was arranged by hand.

michi-maker reads what it can off the card you seed from: its species, its evolution family, its energy type, its illustrator, its palette, and the Pokémon it is known to appear beside. Those readings are what the methods are made of, which is why a card with more to read is offered more ways to fill the page. An Eevee has a big family and a famous partner, so it gets all eight.

How to do it

about a minute
  1. Place the card the page is about

Open a binder, tap an empty pocket and pick your card. Anywhere works, though the middle of a 3x3 reads best. This is the seed: everything else gets chosen to sit with it.

  2. Select it and press Fill

Tap the card you just placed. A small toolbar appears over the pocket, and Fill opens the Fill page sheet.

  3. Pick what the page is about

You are offered the methods that suit this particular card, so the list changes with the card. A Pokémon with a family gets an evolution page. A card with a recorded illustrator gets an artist page. A Trainer gets a Trainer page instead.

  4. Narrow it first if you want to

Two switches sit above the list. From my collection draws only from cards you actually own, once your collection is synced from TCGScan. The language toggle decides whether English, Japanese, or both printings are eligible.

  5. Keep it, or take it straight back

A fill only writes into empty pockets, so nothing you placed by hand moves. The whole fill counts as one step, so a single Undo reverses all of it and you can try another method right away.

Same Pokémon

Every printing of that Pokémon the catalog knows, sampled across eras rather than run set by set, so one page can carry 1999 and 2023 side by side.

Reach for it when: You have one Pokémon you love and you want to see it grow up.

Method 2 of 8

Evolution line

Its whole evolution line, laid out column by column so the page reads through the stages. Eevee has eight evolutions and a 3x3 page has eight free pockets, so this one comes out complete.

Reach for it when: The card belongs to a family and the family is the story.

Friends & partners

Pokémon this one is known to appear beside, from curated pairings plus any card whose name puts them together. With two partners and eight pockets it alternates, four cards each.

Reach for it when: The pairing is the point: duos, rivals, TAG TEAMs.

Method 5 of 8

More like this

The visually nearest cards in the whole catalog, matched on the artwork itself rather than on any label. Not one of these shares a set or an illustrator with the Eevee, and five of the eight are Trainers rather than Pokémon. What they have in common is how they look.

Reach for it when: You want the page to look like the card rather than be about it.

Method 7 of 8

Color match · tri-color

Every card ranked by its actual palette against this one, nearest first. This is the tri-colour search doing the picking.

A few things worth knowing

before you fill

One of each before two of any

No page repeats a Pokémon while it still has someone new to show. Where there are fewer subjects than pockets it cycles instead, so two partners across eight pockets come out as four cards each rather than four of one and then the other.

It never touches what you placed

A fill only writes into empty pockets. Cards you put down yourself, including the one you seeded from, stay exactly where they are.

English, Japanese, or both

The language toggle in the fill sheet is the same one the browser uses, and it is applied while the page is being chosen rather than filtered out afterwards, so you get a full page either way.

Not every method suits every card

You are only offered the ones that can actually produce a page. A card with no recorded illustrator gets no artist page, and a Pokémon with no evolutions gets no family page.

Seven of the eight are included on every plan, signed in. Color match, the palette ranking behind method seven, comes with PRO, and VIP can build every method at once and choose between the finished pages. See plans.

Try it on a card of your own

free to start

Pick the card you like most, drop it in the middle of a page, and see which of the eight suits it. The fill is one step, so nothing you try costs you anything.
